I began my study of Yoga, at birth, with the guidance of my Yoga teacher mother, Anandi, and at the feet of Yoga Guru, Swami Satchidananda.
I received my Yoga certification at the Integral Yoga Institute of New York as a Hatha Yoga teacher. Integral Yoga Institute incorporates postures, deep relaxation, breathing practices, and meditation into each class. Such an integrated discipline is accessible to all types of students, from beginners learning the basics to experienced practitioners wanting to build core strength while using a more meditative practice.
My love of Yoga and its benefits led me to my certification in Childrens Yoga, Prenatal Yoga and Mom and Baby Yoga through Karma Kids Yoga and their incredible program. Karma Kids Yoga is a fun, creative approach to yoga that can be very helpful for children whose bodies are still developing. The use of animated poses and basic stretching exercises promote strength, flexibility, coordination and body awareness. Breathing and visualization techniques teach kids how to focus, relax and develop self-control. The Karma Kids Yoga program also promotes inner-strength, confidence and self-esteem; a feeling of well-being and respect for others; and, love for one's self, inside and out.
While teaching Yoga to children, I found myself drawn to Education and teaching as a whole; in Chappaqua NY in idyllic Westchester NY. Working with the Special Education community brought me incredible joy and shed light on how needed Yoga is in the educational plan of these special children. As student and teacher gradually develop a foundation of mutual trust and friendship, the Yoga teacher can introduce some of the Yoga poses (asanas) and breathing exercises (pranayama) that will help to bring the child out of his or her shell and into the world of social interaction. The combination of asanas, pranayama and deep relaxation will strengthen the childs nervous system, increase overall health and facilitate the development of body awareness and concentration. By establishing optimal physiological and psychological integrity, Yoga therapy can help these wonderful children gain new motor, communication and social skills. The end result is an overall improvement in their quality of life.
I am currently teaching and practicing Yoga daily. And I am diligent in my hopes of bringing Yoga to everyone!
I am a member of both Integral Yoga Teachers Association and Yoga Alliance.
